every designer has a design philosophy. what's yours?

for  4 years of attending interior design course at a university, i never knew what design philosophy is, so i dont have any, until  i took the licensure examination for interior design in our country.

by then, i realized how important design philosophy is to a designer. it gives the designer a distinct design style and character, as well as a trademark for his/her works.

iNTERIOR DESIGN IS BOTH FUNCTIONAL AND VISUAL ART

functional art applies to those art whose medium itself is directly practical and useful, simply made primarily for its function. architecture, pottery, weapons, ceramics and textiles to name a few isdirectly and almost entirely functional, which is built for its special use. the beauty of functional art is more appreciated for its performance, which is to suffice a person's neccesity to life.

visual art is known to beinderectly functional or the least. literature, paintings, photography andsculpture are forms of art made to express an artist's emotions, desires, and intentions.

Interior design is a functional art, that aims the full comfortabilityand satisfaction of the client's needs within his/her space, but in contrary to to louis sullivan's philosophy of form ever follows function,

my philosophy touches not only the the functionality of a design but also its aesthetics and visual perception, through the influence of different visual artforms.

few designers i know loved  the philosophy of green and sustainable designs.

another one i know has a philosophy that every design should touch the five senses of a person. what's yours? =)

I think every design has to be an universal design
WHAT IS BEING UNIVERSAL OF DESIGN?

My philosophy includes incarnation of personal aesthetics within functional parameters . It should interactively connect both parents :(customer and designer....mother and father:))).....and make them love ,concern and be proud of their "child"....mere contemplations of the designing is to contribute and cultivate the "rough necessity" converting it into an ART. And as you all know ART is at once SURFACE and Symbol :))) blessed be those who go beyond the surface and reach the symbol ?! ha-ha-ha
in my opinion universality of design is a paradox and contradicts with personality or context or even freedom :))) ....one designer cannot create the universal instrument ....either a spoon and a fork ,either soft and hard ....and especially the so called green design is a trend/kind of the modern mainstream of hypocrisy , aiming and leading to distraction from the core/essence and PURE Professional Dignity of ART , architecture or beauty.....it is useless and ridiculous to engage an artist to create chemistry or economy ....while his/her clear meaning is to create ART ?!...it is a sick trend to involve professionals within a field out of their talent or job.....anyway it results ....(and perhaps that is the hidden discrete aim :)) TO destroy talent, efforts and general expected qualities within personality !!! I do not expect you to agree :)))....I just expect NOT TO EXPECT MUSICIANS TO PAINT , PHYSICIANS TO WRITE POEMS and DESIGNERS to become PEASANTS ?!!
SID -Simple, Interesting and Different - tats the shortest way i can describe my design philosophy.
My philosophy? Design is art, an expression that comes from within the artist. It should have feeling and radiate life/energy. Each design as unique as the artist. Design should have soul.

This is my dream...my reality...my passion. Creating a beautiful piece of art that someone can not only see or touch, but be part of. To be within the art piece.
Each tiny bit of colour, light and fabric...every painting and sculpture...all put in the perfect place, to create energy and harmony as one soulful art piece.
The Identity of a Interior Designer is only one............but He lives of culture and contaminations........Carlo
My idea of a successful interior is the one which is Blissful ! no design or design philosophy is bad.But I think it is more important to design a space such that the dwellers feel happy living in it rather than the designer leaving a signature to prove his involvment in the project. For me i dont have any particular style.Like an actor i mould myself into the character of my client and design the space so that it pleases his senses rather than mine.I believe we designers can do justice to a space in the same way as an actor do the justice to his role by moulding himself according to the character. That's my design philosophy !
Right... It should be spontaneuos... Nice insight. Thanks.
i m sorry if u find my reply too late..i actually jst nw joined this networking site..n while i ws going thru the reply page i found arwa turra's philosophy really very practical n sound..to add mine to this, i would say my philosophy of design is that design should be really very appealing, functional and lively.
