Aedas-AECOM is the JV Lead Consultant responsible for the preliminary and detailed design of the Express Rail Link - West Kowloon Terminus. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, connecting Hong Kong to the National High Speed Rail Network, will further enhance the strategic position of Hong Kong as the southern gateway of China. The high-speed rail service will allow Hong Kong to have better social and economic integration with cities in the Pearl River Delta as well as all other major cities in the Mainland.

The Express Rail Link will connect to the new highspeed national rail network now being developed, including the Beijing-Guangzhou and Hangzhou-Fuzhou-Shenzhen Passenger Lines.

The entire 26-km long Hong Kong Section will be a dedicated corridor in the form of underground tunnels running from the terminus in West Kowloon to connect the Mainland Section at Shenzhen. Running at a maximum speed of 200 kilometres per hour, the Hong Kong Section of the high-speed rail will shorten the journey time between Hong Kong and Guangzhou significantly from about 100 minutes to 48 minutes. It will only take 14 and 23 minutes respectively from Hong Kong to Futian and Longhau in Shenzhen. The construction of the rail link is expected to commence in 2009 for completion in 2015.
